About the Mediator

Anthony Ruggieri

Anthony Ruggieri has practiced employment law in California for nearly 30 years, primarily representing employees while also advising and litigating on behalf of employers. This balanced background gives him a practical understanding of how cases are evaluated on both sides of the “v.” - legally, strategically, and practically.

Originally from New York City, Anthony graduated with honors from Iona College in 1993 and earned his law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1997. Before and during law school, he gained experience as a paralegal at Hahn & Hessen, focusing on secured lending transactions, and as a law clerk to Honorable Salvadore J. Collazo of the New York County Supreme Court, the National Labor Relations Board in San Diego and New York, and the New York City Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations.

Before moving to California, Anthony worked at IBM Corporation’s corporate headquarters with the company’s senior labor and employment counsel, gaining insight into employer-side evaluation, risk analysis, and practical decision-making in employment disputes. In California, he served as a Principal Attorney at Goode, Peterson & Hemme before joining Advantage Law Group as a Principal Attorney in December 2000 and becoming a partner in 2007.

Known as a “straight shooter,” Anthony has built a reputation for connecting with clients and counsel, developing trust, and candidly identifying factual or legal challenges rather than avoiding them. He believes honest assessment helps move cases toward resolution, a philosophy that now defines his work as a neutral. Credibility with counsel, productive dialogue, and respect for all participants are hallmarks of his mediation practice.

Prior to launching his mediation practice, Mr. Ruggieri trained extensively under his mentor, Lynn Frank, participating in numerous mediations alongside her.

This experience provided firsthand exposure to effective mediation techniques used in both plaintiff and defense rooms, offering insight into how cases move—or stall—at critical moments. The methods and discipline developed during this mentorship continue to inform Mr. Ruggieri’s mediation style today.

— Practice Area

Employment Law

Mr. Ruggieri’s mediation practice is limited exclusively to employment matters.

Having practiced employment law for nearly three decades, he brings subject-matter expertise that allows him to evaluate claims and communicate effectively with the parties regarding the strengths, weaknesses, and practical realities of a case. Mr. Ruggieri understands the pressures, risks, and valuation issues unique to employment cases because he has spent his entire professional life handling them.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Ruggieri has litigated nearly a thousand employment cases, many of which resolved in mediation. That experience—combined with exposure to a wide range of mediation styles—has shaped a pragmatic, flexible approach that emphasizes creative problem-solving rather than rigid formulas.

Our Approach

Mr. Ruggieri approaches mediation with the understanding that resolution requires more than being a “number carrier.”  His style emphasizes candid evaluation, respectful communication, credibility with both sides, and persistence beyond the mediation session.

While the goal is always to resolve matters on the day of mediation, Mr. Ruggieri recognizes that employment cases often require continued dialogue after the session concludes. Resolution is treated as a process, not an event.

Whether via video conference or in person, Mr. Ruggieri will accommodate the parties’ needs for their mediation and will remain committed to working towards resolution regardless of the setting or circumstances.

— Fee Structure

A True Flat Fee

Mr. Ruggieri charges a true flat fee, not subject to additional billing for post-mediation work.

If parties entrust him to mediate a matter, he views his role as continuing until the case resolves, regardless of whether that occurs on the mediation date or thereafter. Follow-up calls, continued negotiations, and ongoing efforts to bridge remaining gaps are included without additional cost to the parties.

Mr. Ruggieri is proactive in post-mediation follow-up and does not wait for counsel to prompt continued engagement. His commitment to resolution is ongoing and deliberate.
